OUR MISSION

To reduce violence, improve child development, and promote mental health through evidence-based parenting support at scale.

WHAT WE DO

Spanning a decade of research and collaboration, Parenting for Lifelong Health was established to meet global demand for scalable parenting support.

16

We design, test, and scale evidence-based parenting support with and for parents.

17

We give parents the support they need, the skills that work, and the trusted advice they can count on to protect and support their children's health, safety, and development.

18

Our parenting courses are developed with families, powered by low-cost and accessible technology, backed by rigorous evidence, and delivered within systems.

I used to spank him just the way I was also raised, which was not working at all. Now, I found that talking to my child works

OUR HISTORY

Spanning a decade of research and collaboration, Parenting for Lifelong Health was established to meet global demand for scalable parenting support.

2012

Parenting for Lifelong Health was founded by researchers from the Universities of Oxford, Cape Town, Bangor, Reading, and Stellenbosch in collaboration with UNICEF and WHO to develop a suite of freely-available, low-cost, high-impact parenting interventions in the Global South.

2012 - 2014

These in-person interventions were initially developed in South Africa with policymakers, frontline workers, parents, and children with programme content for parents of children ages 0-2, 2-9, and 10-17 years.

2012 - 2020

Academic partners rigorously tested Parenting for Lifelong Health in-person interventions through 15 randomised controlled trials.

2020 - 2021

Parenting for Lifelong Health co-led the COVID-19 Positive Parenting Emergency Response initiative which adapted the core components from our programmes into tip sheets and delivery packages, ultimately reaching more than 210 million people across 96 countries and territories. Initial development of technology-assisted programme delivery begins.

2022

Parenting for Lifelong Health was founded as a charitable organisation in response to increasing demand from governments and civil society partners to scale evidence-based parenting programmes to reduce violence against children, improve caregiver and child mental health, and promote child development and learning.

2022 - 2026

With support from the LEGO Foundation, Oak Foundation, The Human Safety Net, Agency Fund, Wellspring Foundation, and other partners, Parenting for Lifelong Health developed digital and blended adaptations of our in-person interventions to reduce cost of delivery and increase accessibility at scale. These programmes were rigorously tested by the Global Parenting Initiative through 15 randomised trials and other evaluation studies..

Today

With strong evidence of impact, a low-cost and replicable delivery model, and significant demand from governments and civil society partners, Parenting for Lifelong Health is poised for catalytic investment to unlock our ambitious plans to deliver impact at scale.

OUR VALUES

Courage

We have the courage to design for the big picture and complex problems with a commitment to creating sustainable solutions that last.

Evidence

We believe our work transforms the lives of children, families, and communities. Evidence of impact guides every decision, and we are relentless in pursuing the greatest impact with the least investment of time and resources required for parents and providers.

Playfulness

Parenting and child wellbeing thrives on play — and so do we. We experiment, learn from each other, as well as from parents and children, and create playful and engaging products and programmes that inspire joy, curiosity, and connection.

Respect

Everyone brings something essential. We show kindness in our team, honesty with our partners, and deep respect and empathy for parents and children, and those who are on the frontline of providing services for them.

Personally, I’ve shared it with ten people, including family members, friends, and grandparents who care for children and teenagers, and they’ve also thanked me for helping them this way
